Recent activity by the foundation: The prevention of skin melanoma

Degree thesis by Beatrice Vivaldi for Dr. M. Ausilia Manganoni

This project came about thanks to collaboration with Dr. Ausilia Maria Manganoni, Medical Director of the Dermatology Operating Unit and Head of Dermatological and Oncological Research at the Spedali Civili hospital in Brescia. Dr. Manganoni needed a poster and a pamphlet on melanoma prevention. The 100x70cm poster was to be displayed on the walls at the hospital and it had to summarise the main details of skin melanoma and its prevention. Dr. Manganoni provided the text, which had to be divided into boxes based on the subject matter. Each box had to have its own title and some photographs or illustrations drawing the patient´s attention to the content. It was decided on a Bordeaux-red background to act as a strong contrast with the pale-coloured walls in the hospital. The second requirement was a small A5 pamphlet containing the same information as the poster, but in greater detail. Paler colours, reminiscent of the medical setting, were chosen this time. Here again, photographs and illustrations aided the reading and understanding of the contents. The material was printed and distributed to patients enrolled in the study, which was approved by the ethics committee. The project also includes an interview video to distribute on the web and a website, both of which are in the pipeline.

  • Poldi Pezzoli Foundation

Umberta Gnutti Beretta has been president of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum Restoration Club since honorary president and patron Countess Marta Marzotto appointed her as her successor. Umberta is a regular visitor to the museum, a renowned collector and sponsor of the restoration of Bellini’s Imago pietatis (click here for further details). The Restoration Club was founded specifically to fund the restoration and preservation of the works at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum that are most in need of intervention.

It is mainly thanks to generous donations from numerous people that the Poldi Pezzoli Museum can survive and continue to grow, promoting the works of art on display and staging exhibitions, conferences, seminars and cultural activities for the general public. The museum counts on the generosity of everyone - businesses, associations and individuals - because even a small donation can go a long way.

Yearly membership of the Restoration Club costs € 1,000. Anyone can join and support the restoration of individual works at the museum and there are various ways of getting involved: click here for further details.
